A BODYMIND VISUALIZATION SYSTEM

Mentagram draws upon the tradition of mandalas, used all over the world in several spiritual traditions as a device for introspection and meditation.

The Mentagram is a six pointed star inside a circle, that seeks to represent the human body in the abstract. The triangles in the Mentagram correspond to various regions of the body. We'll view this in greater detail below.

THE MENTAGRAM

Draw a Mentagram on a piece of paper or create one using a graphics program and print it. Start by focusing on the sensations you feel right now inside or just outside the body. Or you could focus on a particular region of your body. Front or back. You can do this by standing in a relaxed manner or lying down. Closing your eyes will help greatly.

THE ENERGIES

Now look at the patterns below. Pick a pattern that best describes the energy pattern in your body (or a particular region) right now. You can create your own patterns if you don't find it here, but it helps to have an alphabet or visual glossary like what you see below. See if this energy pattern repeats itself at a certain time or after a certain event.

Start shading the region that you're focusing on with the pattern you have chosen. There's no right or wrong way to do this. Notice how you're shading. Are your strokes rising or falling? Are they radiating from a center or moving towards a point?

USING THE MENTAGRAM

In a Mentagram, the shaded areas represent the region you are presently focused on, and the patterns, colors or images you may have filled it with. Use it to track the energy shifts as you work the energies of your body. Indicate if you are working on the front or the back of your body.Working frequently with a mentagram gives you a gentle access into the inner workings of the bodymind.

Mentagrams are best drawn with a pen so that the lines are obvious, but feel free to use color pencils or whatever medium appeals to you. It is important to go with what you feel internally. Mentagrams can be revealing or even cathartic. If you wish to discuss your Mentagrams with me, please write to me and we can start a conversation.

Write to me and I'll mail you a Mentagram template that you can print and use.
